quick calc from google toolbar

I used a friends computer the other day and they were really surprised when I used the google search box on Firefox to do a quick sum.

he was like, “woah that’s amazing”

I was like, “dude, wtf?”

  • He’s the type of guy that minimizes all the open windows one by one only to open a browser from it’s desktop icon,
  • he always goes to google and types in the url to the search box and then goes and clicks the top adsense ad to get there,
  • he thinks those annoying mid page ads that look like a warning dialogue box are real (every time he sees them)
  • he thinks that when I went into his BIOS that I hacked into his computer via a back door, he still tells his friends about it
  • he thinks he can clear up some space in his pc by deleting 150kb .dll files
  • he takes literally 100 seconds to type “yes” on MSN
  • he’s still trying to capture something good on camera so he can make “millions” on YouTube (he swears he read a story that YouTube pays for each play no matter what I say or show him)

it’d be funny if it wasn’t true.

I didn’t know it could do that - amazing (I mean the sum in Forefox, not all the other stuff you mentioned!)

haha, does he by chance search for google from msn? Was doing research on searches via msn/live and found 25million people per month search for google! scary isn’t it!

haHA if you really wanna mess with his mind and he has nvidia drivers, press cntrl+alt+the down arrow. It’ll flip his screen upside down. Coworkers love that little gag.

LOL, funny stuff! Especially that it’s true!
Please, please send him those animated images on MSN that look like a virus is loading. :D Fun, fun!

I think I know that guy! He must have a twin brother that lives here. Here’s a hacking question for you: Is it possible to turn someone’s processor fan off and inhibit the script that reboots when it gets hot so that I can burn up someone’s computer with a single click? Would you design such an annihilation program? Could you make it into a wordpress plug in?

Nicola: it’s a lot quicker than opening calc and you can do it without leaving the page you’re on, once you start using it you’ll wonder what you did without it!

    Rhys: isn’t it just boyo!

sean: that’s amazing but I’m not totally surprised by it!

Drew: I prefer to screenshot the desktop, remove all the icons and then change the background wall paper to the screenshot, takes numpties bloody ages to figure out what went wrong!

Mira: I would but then I’d have to go around to his place and fix the problems it caused (again!)

Bobby: it is possible, I played with some libraries once that allowed the changing fan speeds with software but it was pretty motherboard specific. Once I take over the world, I may have time to develop something that could be a generic PC killer plugin but I’d have to eliminate all my nemesi (sic?) in strange and easy escapable ways :)

    Nicole: :-)

Dennis: my whole computer life is based on keyboard and other shortcuts so these are the kind of things I know, glad you find it useful!

A friend of mine deleted an important dll in the windows system folder that has a small bear as an icon. He was told by some email that this is a dangerous file. So he deleted it.

dll spells plague in my dictionary. I don’t touch ‘em without a geek sittin’ next to me just in case :-)

Grin, it’s funny how you take for granted the things you’ve learned over the years. It’s like, why should I write about this… everybody knows this already! But then all it takes is a chat with a non-internet savvy type, and you realize your knowledge makes you a genius in some circles. :P

That stuff never gets old. Just this morning I spoofed an email to a coworker telling him he got busted for screwing around on the internet at work.

LoL this reminds me of my old man, he only just started getting into the Internet after retiring from a 20 year job. Almost daily he will come to me with a big grin on his face thinking he has figured out the next best thing since sliced bread.

I must admit though that even I didn’t know you could use the calculator from the toolbar.
