I have finally finished the commercial project that has kept me busy for a week. yey! I can now go back to my ‘real’ computer work which is basically, stumbleupon, blogroll and comments!
A big thanks to AntiBarbie for filling in with an introductory post about herself. I’m sure we can work something out with a short story here and there, I really like a good short story to make me think!
I have quite a few commercial projects in the pipeline so I have been in contact with quite a few designers over the past two weeks to get quotes and discover hidden talents. Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Romania and Russia have all got decent designers and coders that can do the same job as a locally employed coder but for half the price (sometimes less!).
I have the advantage of being able to do a bit of PHP code here and there so I only have to get a theme or initial CSS layout done and then I can add all the functions that the client wants myself.
The initial design is always the hardest to get done, once the look is how I want it then adding the other bits is relatively easy. Mostly, I use reusable PHP snippets that I have made in the past and insert them into the page wherever I want. Anything new that’s required can be coded from scratch and added to my library of geekery.
I even think there will be time today to visit the usual suspects and see what I’ve been missing this past week… I am Browser of Borg, prepare to be commentated!..

You get the heck of outsourcing, buddy!
We’ll soon hear about you having a 4-hour-week.
Lalla Mira’s last blog post..3D Logic
And I thought I was busy!
It’s surprising how much gets done when one is all tied-up, huh?

@lalla: it’s the only way to play! I can send out 3 different jobs to 3 different people and combine them all when they come back to me and add some bits by myself and sell the whole package with a monthly hosting and maintenance charge.
kerching!
@pelf: I used to think I was busy, now I know what busy is! I’ll be even busier when the new theme comes around, I have some great plans for the weeks following.
?
oh the countdown has gone, now we have ‘kinda capture ‘! and still no link back for me- I think I will deactive all the plugins and start again.
Actually I need to write my winning entry for Auntie Barbie’s do-dah first!
OK now the countdown timer is back again.
Very confusing
you should have a feed at /feed/ but it’s not showing! once you can see a feed at that location it should pick up your last post.
off to work on Auntie Barbies do-dah? oo-er
I was kinda missing you because you haven’t been around….. I was just checking out to see if you’ve gotten your new design up and running.
But you are right, you can get equally fantastic programmers for less when you outsource.

Sharon » They are just as capable it’s true but I haven’t heard from my theme designer in a couple of days so I’m worried he can’t do the job! I sent him an email but no reply yet. I do have a mock up picture though so I could use that to send to another coder if he doesn’t reply soon.
I agree with you that in Romania you can find great designers and coders
