I learned how to use SVN to upload CommentLuv to the Wordpress plugins repository last night, I’d put it off until now because I didn’t want to delve into linux just to use SVN.
That was until I found a post about how to use TortoiseSVN to do the job and lickety-split! it was up and appeared on the plugins page within a few minutes.
Putting the plugin here for download was good but it didn’t get shown to many readers, however, since it has appeared on the much wider audience Wordpress.org directory I can’t help thinking that I can improve the code a lot more (and that I should neaten it up) so I have been researching how to use the WP function fetch_rss() to make things a lot simpler for grabbing the comment authors last post, the old way was done manually with a long arsed (but very functional) parsing routine.
This will have the advantage of making the plugin work on hosting that doesn’t support the commands I currently use, there’s only a couple of blogs that it hasn’t worked on and they’ve been on some of the cheaper hosting packages that don’t support the whole range of PHP functions so good news for them! The only problem that I see with it is that the WP fetch_rss() function is only available from the 2.1 release of Wordpress so older blogs wont be able to use it.
I’ll also tweak the feed finder routine so that it can try a few different places for the default feed, useful for blogspot blogs that have their own domain name and for Typepad blogs that don’t have a standard directory structure. I’ve also added some compatibility fixes so that it behaves well with other comment enhancing plugins.

I look forward to the new version, since CommentLuv seems to be “stuck” on an old post for one of my regular commenters and we can’t seem to fix the problem.
BTW, I like your Blog Comment Policy. Mine’s pretty much the same. I’m pretty sick of people getting nasty on blogs, aren’t you?
Thanks for CommentLuv. Although I suspect it has slightly increased the spam on my site, it’s certainly worth the few extra minutes it takes to moderate those comments.

Hi, I’ve not had any luck with CommentLuv 0.999 using Wordpress and the Ads-Minded theme. I don’t get any text saying I am using the plugin on the comments page, nor any links to feeds. I think it may be down to particularities with the theme, if you could have a quick look it is the site in my names link.

try just uploading the php file held in the trunk folder to your plugins directory. that might fix it.
I once wrote to you saying that when I updated comment luv I had to make the old file writable in order to upload the new one.
That seems to be wrong because the plugin hasn’t been working. So I deleted the old version and uploaded the new.

I only have one issue and that’s the way the links that are inserted look. I figured it would be an easy enough change to make myself after finding the relevant code in your plugin file. Currently the code is set to simply output the message and link in italics
I, on the other hand, wish to add in a break between the text and the link, and apply the following style to the comment:

border-top: 1px solid #CCCCCC;
font-size: 11px;
padding: 5px 0px 15px 0px;
color: #999999;
}
I’ve tried both attempting to refer to my style sheet, and also embedding the style information with no joy on either attempt.
I tried posting the code lines on here, but they didn’t render right. If you are willing to help me out on this one, can you email me and I’ll send you the code examples I have tried?

Yeah it’s not the styling of the comment that’s the problem - I’ve already got that licked. It’s just the specific styling of the text and link your plugin inserts.
It just seems odd to me that it will adhere to the tag, but seemingly nothing else…

I tried to set up CommentLuv on my site, and got through to activation with no problems; however, there’s no notification of CommentLuv’s presence on my comment forms, and it doesn’t scrape feeds when comments are posted. Any ideas? Is CommentLuv compatible with the latest stable wordpress?
