Check who shares your website IP - you may be surprised

I’ve just been checking on a site to check who shares the hosting for some of my domains and I was amazed that some of my domains share their IP with over 500 other sites!

Take a look at http://www.myipneighbors.com/ and see how many other sites you are neighbors with, just input your IP or domain name and it’ll search and tell you who ‘lives’ next door.

This domain (fiddyp.co.uk) has just been moved to a new server and it’s nice to see that it’s living on it’s own (for now)

This might explain why emails from certain domains go straight to the spam box, guess I’ll have to start sending them from lonely domains from now on!

Very Interesting….. I went from a shared server to my own rack and then back to a bigger shared server with another hosting company. Got quite a bit of neighbors.

I was so surprised to see over 500 neighbors! On one site, there was 758 different sites all on the same shared server as me. OMG!

I think we should know how many are our neighbors. If too many neighbors (site hosted) it will decrease server’s performance.

I realize that server companies are just trying to give us the lowest price possible, and that is why they pack the sites in like sardines.

I checked this out a while ago, and found over 600 sites! This might explain why there are random big slowdowns on my blog, you know, the ones that make you want to call up your host and scream at the unsuspecting tech guy from India.
