My MYSQL cherry has been popped! rok on CommentLuv options site

I’ve been too lazy to transfer my holiday photos from my camera since I cam back (because then everyone will crowd around my computer and ooh and ahh at every.single.picture - even the ones of a thumb obscuring the lens) instead though, I have bitten the bullet and finally got around to creating some Mysql tables for the remote script that does the fetching of the last blog post for commentluv plugin users.

What does this mean? ..
it means that I can create a site for people to register their blog url and with that :

  • set a default cache timeout for speedier processing of their comments on blogs that use the plugin.
  • define a default RSS feed url to be used for their domain
(will also make retrieving a little quicker)
  • define a default link and anchor text to be used
(useful for pointing to a particular post in the past on comments you make on commentluv sites or if your feed has an error)
  • choose to use default link and anchor text instead of your feeds last entry
(useful for when you go on a comment campaign)
  • make your last blog post links open in a new window
    (on sites you comment on)

Other things I will be able to do with the upcoming commentluv site now I’m using a database to store data..

  • Show you the last 10 blogs with commentluv that you commented on
  • Show you the last 10 comments with a last blog post made on your blog
  • Show the top 10 blogs that comment on your blog
  • Show the top 10 blogs that you comment on (that have commentluv)
  • Show which blogs have commented on you that you haven’t commented on
(thanks to Bobby Revellian who requested something to keep a track of which blogs he has commented on and which blogs he needs to comment on. I know it was literally half a year ago bobby but it’s taken me until now to learn enough stuff to make it possible!)
  • probably a lot more…:-)

If there’s more things you’d like to be able to do with commentluv on your blog or features you’d like to see for a commentluv site please leave a comment here and let me know… (btw.. I am using a new version of commentluv on this site that uses the new remote script and database, if you get any issues with comments going funny please let me know on the contact page)

..oh, one more thing… ajax commentluv is a little more improved, it can now work with almost any blog that allows you to edit the header of your theme! .. it’s still a little way off from a release but it seems to be working well … stay tuned!

I’m Back! new server better support

Posted by Andy Bailey at 26 July, 2008, 6:58 pm

Thanks to my new server provider MaxtorHost FiddyP blog is now much faster and secure. The commentluv script is also more secure and faster.

My previous server was a bit pants, the plesk dashboard was super slow, ftp was unreliable and support was terse and “couldn’tgiveatoss”. I managed to overcome the ftp problems by telnet’ing to the server and gzipping the httpdocs folder and database (old phpmyadmin wouldn’t download an export file grrr). The kind support at Maxtor Host was able to restore my database and all root files and folders within minutes of me asking in a support ticket.

Now I don’t have to worry about losing any posts since before I went on holiday, I can get on with my master plan for the new CommentLuv site and perhaps get the AJAX version sorted so it can be easily installable and should be compatible with typepad blogs too.

I’m kinda busy with a lot of stuff I have to catch up on but I’ll get there eventually! Thanks to all those that wished me happy travelling. It was an awesome holiday which I’ll write about soon enough…

hazaa for Maxtor Host who can provide a managed semi-dedicated server for hundreds of dollars less than the crappy streamline.net. (their support roks too)

[edit]I signed up to their affiliate program after Jon’s comment below and changed the links to aff ones in the post

Hurray I am going on holiday!

..or should that be, HURRY! I’m going on holiday! lol, finally after working many long hours and days and weeks and (gosh!) even years, I am finally going to go on holiday with my sweet miss lovely. A 7 day cruise around the Med’ with nothing but sun, sea and .. ahem, well, you know ;-)

I leave on Saturday and wont be back until the next Sunday so don’t be scared if you don’t see me lurking around your blogs and sites for a while, I know I don’t get much chance to respond to comments any way but next week will be even worse.

The big news will be that I wont be taking any phones or laptops and my home PC(’s) will be SWITCHED OFF hahahaha! I’m scared they wont switch back on again, they’ve only been off a few times and that was to replace ageing hardware…. oo-er, how exciting. I might join the luddites (not!)

Some absolute cracking good plugins and tools for WP site developers

Posted by Andy Bailey at 4 June, 2008, 12:42 pm

I’ve been away from fiddyp for a while but not away from wordpress as I’ve been working really hard on some WP based sites that have turned out pretty well using WP as a CMS combined with some useful and custom plugins.

It’s pretty amazing what you can do with some customized templates and a bit of hacking the code here and there so I thought I’d list some of the useful tools I work with to make life a little bit easier.

Cforms II

This is a really easy plugin to use straight out of the box just by entering <!–cforms–> onto a post or page where you want the contact form to appear.

Select which fields you want in the options page and you can’t get a simpler contact form made on Wordpress!

It can be used in a more complex way too, it has options for AJAX, custom fields and even a file upload function. Get into the code some more and there are ways to generate custom contact forms within the wordpress template code so for example, you could generate a “request more information on this product” form on a product listing which has the product code automatically inserted as a hidden field which will be sent along with the contacts details and message.

You can read more about Cforms II and download the latest version at
http://www.deliciousdays.com/cforms-plugin

It works well and is constantly being updated with new features and options.

Oh look a minute spare!

Here I am looking at the new post screen on wordpress! yey. oh how I missed your light blue tones :-)

It’s funny, I’ve been busier and had more work to do over the past weeks and months than ever before but I don’t feel as half as stressed as I used to. It must be the nice weather or I might be (shock!) getting used to the workload!

I took on a charity website job last week and completed the final touches this morning, it’s for the Newtown Santa Run in 2008 which is a record breaking gathering of people dressed as Santa who run a few miles to raise money for good causes. It’s held every year in Newtown, Powys and there’s oodles of prizes to be won and lots of money to raise for charity. Visit the Newtown Santa Run website and see what they get up to..

I promised to do a few links here and there to get it noticed so you might notice it popping up here or there until google indexes it properly…

Compliance… the path to riches

elottery

I managed to catch the Monday night elottery broadcast today and although I’ve heard the business presentation a squillion times, I actually got excited about elottery again!

I’ve been involved with it for a few years now and even though I continue to bring in new members here and there, they are mostly from my total leads orders and my automated sites and autoresponders. I rarely get the chance to do a face to face presentation these days which is probably due to most face to face meetings I have are talking about 10k+ commercial contracts and it seems a little bit out of place to be mentioning something that costs a fiver to join!

My mistake! I used to do it before and successfully signed up a professional football club who have just recently been promoted up a league and will soon have television coverage (and lucky me has a big grab a grand banner behind the goal!) so I think it’s time to start back on the elottery trail again. I did really well last time I was active with elottery and my team hasn’t depleted much in the months and months of neglect that I have inflicted on them, combine this with the new payplan and structure that has come about because of… COMPLIANCE… and I’m 100% positive that I’ll be earning more than ever (I’ve earned literally tens of thousands of pounds in commission from elottery so far)

What is this compliance thing?
It’s due to new European law coming in to force about networking and other commission based opportunities..

This is the best news I have heard for elottery since I joined because…

  • no longer is it necessary for an affiliate to be a player
  • the opening up of commission levels is no longer dependent on how many affiliates you sign up
  • getting bonus payments has been made much much easier
  • no more freeloaders

These are just some of the benefits of the new rules coming and I will be expanding on these over the next few weeks, for now, get yourself over to my elottery site and take a look around. Now is the time to join elottery, it’ll be even easier to make a success of yourself! (with my help of course!)
